Tim Cook Denies the Bigger iPhone Screen
Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has recently addressed the rumors of there being a larger iPhone screen or an “iPhone Math”. He told people on the quarter 1 earnings call that they made the right choice going with the 4-inch screen on the iPhone 5. He was careful when talking about the rumors of upcoming products. Shope (the person who talked to Tim) asked him one question that was interesting to all of us. He asked, “Do you think there is a long-term case for a larger screen size or at least the larger variety of screen sizes for iPhones and for the smartphone category in general?” Tim Cook answered: “The iPhone 5 offers as you know a new 4-inch Retina display, which is the most advanced display in the industry and no one comes close to matching the level of quality as the Retina display. It also provides a larger screen size for iPhone customers without sacrificing the one headed ease-of-use that our customers love. So, we put a lot of thinking into screen size and believe we’ve picked the right one.”
His answer highlights the rumors of Apple making a bigger screen and is, in a way, denies them. Even though Tim said that they made the right choice with the 4-inch screen, that doesn’t mean that they won’t increase the size in the future. I agree with Tim. I think they made the right choice going with the 4-inch screen.
