Intel Announces The Next-gen Thunderbolt

04/08/2013 16:31

Even though Thunderbolt ports have been around since 2011, the technology hasn’t gotten very far and is currently not the go-to port for most people. Intel may have just changed all of that when they announced a new version of the port today.

The previous version of the Thunderbolt was only transferring at 10 Gbps. The new version will transfer at an amazing 20 Gbps. It will also support 4k video. The new ports will be backwards-compatible meaning that you can plug in a 10 Gbps device in a 20 Gbps port.

Now that a new Thunderbolt port has come out Apple will probably upgrade their devices to the latest technology so you can expect the new port on many devices soon.
