iOS 8.3 Allows Free Downloads without a Password

When you download an item from the App Store, you have to enter in your password. This ensures that no one will be able to download things on an account that not theirs. Now, it’s been discovered that with the beta of iOS 8.3 you no longer need to enter a password for free purchases. This is not enabled by default. Rather, you have to go the iTunes & App Store settings and click on “Password Settings”. Then you will be able to turn off the toggle to require a password for free downloads.

This is a really great feature. We know that these items are free so there’s no need to have a password to ensure that you want to download it. And the option is there if you ever want to turn it back on. This just makes it a lot easier to download items from the App Store.

This new feature not only works for the App Store, but also Apple’s other stores. If there is free content within the iTunes or iBooks Store, you can download that as well without a password. We’re expecting this feature to roll out to iTunes and the Mac App Store very soon as well.

Apple to Announce New Apple TV at WWDC

Apple is going to announce a new Apple TV at the next WWDC. This new iteration is said to include the A8 processor, an App Store, and Siri. At WWDC Apple loves to announce new developer things, like SDKs. Thus, it would be the perfect time to announce the new TV box. The addition of the App Store means that now everyone can create apps for the Apple TV.

Siri could also be a big help in the Apple TV. Now you could ask questions just like your iPhone, have dictation input text, and open apps.

Apple Releases OS X 10.10.2 Security Update

Apple has today released a new security update for users on OS X 10.10.2. This updates come not too long after the last update, which was released only a few weeks ago. Apple didn't really note much on what's fixed in this update. They just say that this "improves the security of OS X". While they don' say much it's still a good idea to install it.

Those wanting to update can do so by going to the Mac App Store > Updates > Software update > Security Update 2015-003.

    Apple Watch Companion App Revealed

With iOS 8.2 Apple included the new Apple Watch app built in. However, since none of us have the watch we can’t see what’s passed the setup screen. Now, developer Hamza Sood was able to get into the app and is now showing photos of what it looks like inside.

Within the confounds of the app we get a dark menu system that looks very similar to the Settings app for iOS. There’s different options like the app layout, basic settings, notification settings, passcode, sounds, and more. There are also some interesting options, like the ability to change the screen orientation for those who would want to wear the watch on the right wrist. You can also adjust which way the digital crown turns for certain actions, taking in account for which wrist you’re wearing the watch.

We also see options like Handoff, where you can pick up where you left off from the watch on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Finally, there are options like software updates, accessibility tweaks, and more. You can view the full gallery of screenshots here.

Apple Launches iOS 8.3 Testing Program

Apple has today launched the iOS 8.3 public testing program. This allows the general public to opt in an try the beta of iOS 8.3. A few weeks back we covered a rumor that Apple will be launching public betas of iOS 8.3 and iOS 9. They have followed true with 8.3 so it's only a matter of time until we know if the rest of that rumor is true.

Those interested in trying iOS 8.3 can sign up for Apple Seed here. However, some, including myself, can't try the beta because it's not available for download within certain accounts. It seems like it's an issue for those with an existing Apple Seed account. If you sign up for a new account you will likely be able to download the beta. Apple will also likely push out the beta to current Apple Seed members soon.

Apple Watch has 8GB of Storage

Apple has confirmed that there is 8GB of storage on the Apple Watch. They have also outlined what that space will be used for. 2GB is dedicated to songs that will be stored directly on the watch. 75MB will be dedicated to photos. However, if the watch is connected to an iPhone then you will have an unlimited space available for photos and music, as it’s just pulled from the phone. That size is for music and photos stored directly on the watch. The remaining space is said to be for the device’s software and other application files. What’s not known right now is if applications downloaded from the Apple Watch App Store will be stored on the watch or iPhone.
